Sweet magnolia as grow
Poem by Bessie Mayfield
Music Tom Mayfield
_D.
I am thinking of my old home
G. D
so many miles away
A
down where the sweet magnolias grow
D.
I can picture in my mind
G. D
the day I said goodbye
A. D
to the old folks that I left so long ago
G. D
now the sunbeams kiss the Hill tops in the valley
A
and the mocking birds will sing a sweet refrain
D.
I can hear the church bells ringing
G. D
as the birds sing sweet and clear
A. D
in the valley where the sweet magnolias grow
D
when the evening sun is Setting
G. D
In the crimson flooded west
A
And the katydids are singing all the weary world to rest
D. G. D
My heart is sad and lonely and my thoughts are far away
A. D
In the valley where the sweet magnolias grow.
G. D
now the sunbeams kiss the hilltops in the valley
A
and the mocking birds will sing a sweet refrain
D.
I can hear the church bells ringing
G.
as the birds sing sweet and clear
A. D
in the valley where the sweet magnolia grow.
D. G. D
Many years have passed since I saw the old folks last
A
I hope and pray I'll meet them some sweet day
D.
I can still hear them calling
G.
as the twilight gathers gloom
A. G
in the valley where the sweet magnolias grow
G. D
now the sunbeams kiss the hilltops in the valley
A
and the mockingbirds will sing a sweet refrain
D.
I can hear the church bells ringing
G.
as the birds sing sweet and clear
A. D
in the valley where the sweet magnolias grow
A. D
in the valley where the sweet magnolias grow.
