 G  It sets above the mantel on a couple rusty nails
It ain't  C9  worth a lot of money 
And it damn sure ain't for sale
The  D  good lord only knows all the  C9  stories it 
could tell.  My Granddaddy's  G  gun

 G  He bought it new out of the Sears and Robuck catalog
And it  C9  shot a many shells over the back of an old bird dog
And it  D  backed a burglar down when grandma  C9  took the safety 
off of Granddaddy's  G  gun.


 C9  It's just an old double  G  barrel twelve
The  D  stock is cracked and it  Em  kick's like hell
It  C9  wouldn't mean what  G  mean's to me to  D  no one
I can  C9  still hear his voice when I  G  put it to my shoulder
A  C9  guns like a woman son it's  Em  all how you hold her
He  C9  taught me a whole lot  G  more than how to  D  hunt
And  C9  one of these days I'll  G  pass it on to my  D  grandson

 G  He handed it to me on the day I turned thirteen
With a  C9  half shot box of shells and a kit to keep it clean
I  D  keep a picture in the case of that  C9  sweet old man 
and me. And Granddaddy's  G  gun

That  D  me and Billy Joe shot up one night
